    On python 2 with chg, `mercurial.error` is omitted while printing error. On
other cases it's there in error message.

I did tried to understand what might be the cause was unable to find one on
quick skim through the code.

    Basic install:

    $ make            # see install targets
$ make install    # do a system-wide install
$ hg debuginstall # sanity-check setup
$ hg              # see help

    Running without installing:

    $ make local      # build for inplace usage
$ ./hg --version  # should show the latest version
