Alias for `tests' target. This will cause `make check' to do the right

* Makefile.am (check-local): Alias for `tests' target.  This will
cause `make check' to do the right thing.
(tests): Don't run tests in srcdir.  Also, replaced calls to
basename with a `sed' "equivalent".
